What my calssmates think about advertising vs. marketing

What my classmates think about advertising vs. marketing
Advertising vs. marketing. I have three classmates to discuss about advertising vs. marketing and what they think about the concept of the two. This is their words describing advertising vs. marketing and what they are to them.
“The best way to distinguish the difference between marketing and advertising is to say that marketing is like a recipe. You take a bunch of other ingredients together to make something. Advertising is like the milk in the cake batter. And the entire process of making the cake and then selling the cake afterwards is all marketing. Marketing is the big picture, as to advertising is part of marketing. They are not the same thing.” (Shane Hooper) I do agree with this statement Shane has written. He has made a good statement using his own words and way to describe what the two really are.
“Marketing takes place before products are ever developed or advertised. While advertising does utilize information gathered from marketing research, it’s the latter that dictates what products will hit the market and which ones will never see the light of day.” (Rodriguez, Melissa) This, I also agree with as well. She definitely knows what she is talking about. Especially when she says marketing takes place before products are developed.
“What is marketing? Marketing is the act or process of buying and selling in a market. And what is advertising? Advertising is the activity of attracting public attention to a product or business, as by paid announcements in the print, broadcast, or electronic media. Many would say that there one of the same, but they are not. In order to have a successful business you need both because they both work together for one common goal success.” (Reaze, Shantay M http://fashionistafyi.blogspot.com/) I do agree with Shantay. She is rite when she says they are not the same.
